Equine Volunteer
This volunteer role is to provide vital support to our Equine team, to ensure the best care is given to all our horses and ponies. The role involves various areas of equine care, from day-to-day stable and field maintenance to handling, grooming, training and preparing horses for rehoming. Volunteer training is provided, however basic knowledge of safety around equines and the ability to work independently is essential.
Tasks include
- Following Health and Safety guidelines
- Grooming the Horses, Donkeys and Goats
- Poo picking paddocks
- Mucking out stables
- Filling hay nets
- Cleaning and pricing in the Tack shack
- Cleaning Tack and equipment
- General stable maintenance (weeding, gardening, cleaning troughs etc.)
- Providing enrichment for our animals
- Assisting with groundwork and training animals
What attributes are we looking for?
- Ability to take instruction, as well as good verbal communication skills.
- Enthusiastic and self-motivated
- Reasonably fit and active
- Experience of caring for horses or ponies
- Happy to work alone or with the team
- Enjoys working outside (in all weathers)
- Confident to be in a stable alone with an equine
- Own transport is essential
Training is provided with extra support where needed. Volunteers have the ability to advance their equine knowledge through our volunteer training program.
Shifts are: 8.00am to 12.00pm or 1.00pm to 4.00pm
