Description

Meet Cathara! She is a sweet Shetland who is looking for a new home following the loss of her long-term companion.

She can be nervous of new people but once she gets to know you, she is very loving. She is happy to be groomed, although can be sensitive when her back legs are brushed due to previously having urine scald. She is good for the vet and farrier.

Cathara does suffer from some long-term health problems. She has Cushing’s disease which is well managed with medication. She also suffers from Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS), this is currently managed through diet but has previously been controlled by medication. She has also suffered from chronic laminitis. She has recovered well from this but needs careful management to prevent a reoccurrence. She currently has access to a grass free turnout area during the day with access to soaked hay, with an hour out on a bare grass paddock. She is stabled overnight.

Cathara can be quite mareish when meeting new horses so any introductions would need to be carefully managed. Once she gets to know a new horse, she can get quite attached and does suffer from separation anxiety. This is something we have worked with her on to improve but would need consideration in any potential new home.

WE HAVE MORE HORSES AND PONIES IN NEED

On average, we have 400 animals come into our shelter every year. Please take a look at some of our horses and ponies looking for loving homes and see if you can find a friend for life. Where appropriate, all of our animals are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. We also give each animal a behavioural assessment to identify their needs and help you find your perfect companion.
